mY Brunei Darussalam

Located sandwiched by the East Malaysia two countries Sabah & Sarawak of the island of Borneo, Brunei is supports one-third of that state's population. The 350,000 predominately Malay citizens are ruled by His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah,

Visible from nearly every vantage point in the Bandar, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is a sight to behold. Built in 1958 and named after the present Sultan's father, the edifice supports a huge golden dome, with several smaller domes perched high atop rectangular pillars. Inside the main dome lay a Venetian mosaic made of 3.5 million pieces. The walls are exquisite Italian marble.

A few steps away from the mosque lay Kampung Ayer, the Bandar's famous stilt villages.

There is also the Mausoleum of Sultan Bolkiah. It was built in the memory of the emperor Sultan Bolkiah, one of the greatest Sultans and Brunei. His rule can well be termed as the golden era in the history of Brunei.

The strength of Brunei as a nation had reached its zenith in the 15th and 17th centuries. It was during that time that Brunei had an extensive control over northwest Borneo and southern part of Philippines.

Internal conflicts, piracy and the colonial rule of Europe led to the decline of the past glory of Brunei which, along with other historical events.

In 1963 Brunei became the only kingdom in the Malay region which chose to remain dependent on Britain. Later in 1984, Brunei became an independent nation.
